How to tighten a pin and safety catch on your badge.
Our step-by-step video will help you tune your pin and safety catch on your badge.
A pin and safety catch holds your badge securely to your uniform. Over time and with daily use, the safety catch may loosen. Tightening a safety catch is quick and easy and this article and video will explain how to tighten the safety catch.
What tools do I need to tighten the safety catch on my badge?
The only tool you need to tighten the safety catch is needle-nose pliers. Choose needle-nose pliers with a “jaw” flat on the inside and rounder, or with a slight point, on the “nose” of the plier. This is a jewelry plier, or a chain plier, for precise tuning.
What are the steps to tighten my safety catch?
- Lay your badge face down in your hand with the pin and safety catch facing up.
- Unlock the pin from the catch and open it wide.
- Gently apply pressure to both sides of your safety catch with your pliers.
Continue to gently apply pressure from one side to the other until the safety catch is tight. One or two gentle “squeezes” should be enough.
If you over-tighten your safety catch, use the tip of your pliers to loosen it. Place the tip of your pliers in the middle of the safety catch and gently work it from side to side. Place the pin back into the safety catch to test the ease of opening and securing the safety catch.
Proceed slowly and lightly when you adjust your safety catch to avoid damaging your badge. If you follow these directions, tightening the safety catch should be a quick and easy process.
