Cobb County Police Department Badge
Celebrating a centennial with a modern anniversary badge rich in historical detail.
Celebrating a centennial is a significant milestone and the Cobb County Police Department started planning an anniversary badge well ahead of the 2024 celebration year. After engaging in a preliminary conversation that continued through our BadgeStudio consultation, the Cobb County Police Department trusted our collaborative process to take their starting point and redesign their anniversary badge. A key moment of understanding was that each symbol on a custom anniversary badge should contribute to the century-long story of their department. We shared special manufacturing techniques, demonstrating the array of possibilities to make their badge truly unique. The resulting anniversary badge reflects a century of history for their centennial celebration.
Crafting a Badge to Celebrate a Century of History
From top to bottom, their badge design incorporates a rich department history with a modern memorial design in two-tone metal. Two stars nestle into the eagle-top shield symbolizing the Cobb County Police Department’s early days and badge tradition. The two stars represent the two founding officers in 1924 and the eagle-top shield pays tribute to their current badge and the Federal Government.
The central focal point of their badge features the Cobb County Police Memorial Statue surrounded by seven sun rays memorializing all Cobb County Police Officers, including one K9, who lost their lives in the line of duty. The state seal and the GA flag proudly represent the state of Georgia. The USA flag frames the badge's other side, adding color and patriotism to the badge. The year 1943 surrounds the Georgia state seal representing the official founding date of their police department.
The BadgeStudio Consultation and Design Process
Cobb County came to us with a thoughtful design and the initial project scope was for our design team to take their design and create a badge ready for manufacturing. We reviewed their initial concept and knew their ideas were strong. With an understanding of what they were looking to do, we earned their trust to take their important historical elements and start fresh with the design process. For example, their original design featured a large number of sunrays which was reinterpreted to seven rays representing their fallen officers and one K9. Moving from many rays to a meaningful number also provided space for the Police Memorial Statue to emerge as a focal point.
Special Manufacturing Features
The Cobb County Police Department badge is a two-tone badge with a stippled silver background setting the stage for the Police Memorial Statue, sunrays, and the colored flags to emerge from the badge in a 3D fashion. The use of cloisonne enamel panels with a ribbon edge accentuates Cobb County and Centennial messaging along with their important dates. The design is balanced and beautiful with meaningful symbolic elements flowing seamlessly from the top to the bottom of the badge.
